I remember seeing a TV report showing John Major haranguing a small crowd while standing on one. Did Michael Howard use one? Where did they get them? They must be as rare now as washboards or mangles.

I heard Alan Ladd, who was 5 foot 6; Audie Murphy was an inch shorter, however, so it might well have been him.
I don't believe the soapbox is important but rather it's products.
e.g.
David Cameron: Soft-soap plus free flannel.
George Osborne: "Lux"- Providing filthy rich suds with protection.
Nick Clegg: "Lifebuoy".
Ed Millibrand: "Wash and Go".
Ed Balls: Whole-body "Hair-styling Mousse"
Oh by the way sandy, Nicholas Soames, comes by the palette-load, not in boxes.
SIQ.

Lord Mandelson - Fairy of course
Hypognosis, you are right, it was Alan Ladd, my apologies, not Audie Murphy
Wee Willie Carson used one when presenting the racing on the Beeb with Claire Balding.............and still she towered above him:-)
Do we know if Cheryl Ladd used any aids ?
