It never ceases to amaze me , the number of people who seem to have some God given right to drive in poor visibility with just sidelights or no lights at all. More often than not these appear to be the Audi, Merc. B.M.W. brigade, usuallw with dark coloured vehicles. Surelw I can't be the only one to notice these idiots who are putting themselves in danger but everyone else as well. Happy Motoring. Eric.

In fog, the outline of the vehicle comes into sight long before any sidelights. It is difficult to imagine what is in the mind of someone who does this. I think they are just safe in the knowledge that people are not allowed to collide with them.

The essence of using lights in bad light is that of being seen, rather than simply being able to see. In order to accept this premise, you have to be able to think outside yourself and your own requirements, and think of the safety and security of other people.

You have to accept that some drivers simply are unable to think outside what they require - "I can see OK, what's the problem?"

They are selfish, thgoutless, and dangerous, but sadly they occupy the same road space as the rest of us, and there's nothing we can do except give them a wide berth.

Oh, and swear at them, which they can't hear, but it makes you feel better!

And what about the other side of the coin? Those dipsticks who have their fog lights on when there's no fog!

Right I gonna do a jan bug here (buggy where are you when I need you) I drive a BMW but I don't count myself among the group described expertly by Andy, there are idiots in all kinds of car so please don't generalise!

Why do cars have sidelights anyway? they serve no purpose. If you need lights use dipped headlights.

These people irritate me beyond belief and I drive a beamer too Loosehead ,so sorry Eric I can see a flaw forming!.

Only one group of people irritate me more -those pedestrians who swaddle themselves from head to toe in the darkest clothes possible and hang around on rural roads waiting to scare the bejaysus out of the most vigilant of motorists.I live in a commuter village and would like to perform a ritual burning of all dark coats in September before the nights start to draw in !

I agree with you sense4all! I would also extend this to include cyclists. I drive through part of Birmingham to get to work, and every winter morning I see several cyclists in dark clothing, with no lights or reflective gear on. Why can't these people take the responsibility to make themselves visible? In this I also include those that drive cars without lights in bad visibility!
Have to agree with you all. I drive Jaguar and Mercedes and make sure I am lit-up well as I really don't want anybody else bumping into me ! I also cycle and cannot understand why so many cyclists are suicidally invisible. As for those pedestrians, I reckon it is way past time Britain got some anti-jay-walking laws. The highway code tells cyclists and pedestrians to make sure they are visible - can't the police do anything to make them comply ?
