Waiting for the lights to change at a Junction ; to turn left .
It's Dark and raining .

About to move off - i thought i heard the sound of someone's voice
Glance in my NS mirror to see two pedal cyclists who had approached junction on my N/S , by the kerb .
No lights on cycles - dark colour / no reflective clothing .

If i had not heard the faint sound of their voices and glanced in my N'S mirror , i would have turned left and there would have been a collision , with the real chance or serious injury .

Why oh Why do some cyclists - pedal and motor , ride past on the N/S of vehicles by the kerb ( you see it all the time ) - not to mention the lack of lights and reflective clothing ?

at the risk of you shouting at me, you were indicating weren't you?
Makes their stupidity even worse than it already was.

I'm sure I've seen some buses and HGV's with posters/stickers warning cyclists not to come up their sides if they are indicating for turning.
I see it all the time round here, kids and adults riding along on bikes with no lights on, accidents waiting to happen ...
I saw a cyclist riding on a main road with no lights, texting and wearing headphones.
The police just seem to turn a blind eye !
I agree with you so far, but, weren't we all taught to check for these things before turning?

Trouble is if i'd collided with them , PC Plod would be holding me at fault
Well yes, because you didn't check.

I think they really believe they own the Roads, especially the Lycra Louts.
I say this every time this comes up -

I attend the Cambridge Folk Festival every year, and drive back to my hotel at night in utter fear of hitting any one of the hundreds of students who ride their bikes in dark clothing with no lights on.

By definition, these are some of the top academic brains in the country, but they are utterly lacking in common sense, or the realisation that a cyclist with no lights in dark clothing riding at night is invisible to car drivers.
Andy. Stop being a complete and utter woos and take up camping at folk festivals :-)
because the idiots cant afford a £3 pack of led front and rear lights even though the batteries will last a couple of years and they also think i dont need lights because " i can see where i'm going" !
because they are numpties, who don't think it matters, lost count of all the cyclists in London i see do this.
I can only assume that placing a razor sharp saddle between ones buttocks presses on some cerebral / spinal connection which engenders an exaggerated opinion of ones own self importance.
It seems to happen to them all.
Erik2 £3 you can do front back and batterys for £2 at poundland.
The end of the bell is not only on the handlebars.
They are mad - when I'm out on the bike after dark I'm lit up like a Christmas Tree on Acid - mainly red to the rear and white to the front - with an added dollop of blue flashing just in case ...
melv - // Andy. Stop being a complete and utter woos and take up camping at folk festivals :-) //

I am sixty-three, and after a full day of interviewing musicians, and reviewing artists, I want a toilet and bath that only I have used, a bed with a duvet, and most essential of all - silence.

Camping falls down on all of those, so if that makes me a wuss, I am perfectly happy to live with it!!! LOL!
dustypuss
a pack for £2 at "poundland" lol
but know what ya mean there's now poundland plus shops where everything is not a £1
Andy, you don't know what you're missing! Overflowing toilets, tents crammed in, drummers drumming all night, violins being tortured at 4 in the morning...oh the joys of a folk festival camp site:-)
