and i think ive found the one i want..... but its £399!!

all we use the computer for is browsing, email, the odd letter, a few games, the odd simple spreadsheet, perhaps a bit of catch up tv, or download a bit of music.

the money is not particularly an issue, but is it really worth spending that?

You can do all that on kindle fire from£119....
My son has a kindle fire (v recently on Amazon for £99 fir the HD) and it does all that my iPad (over priced but lush) does. If you get any sort of tablet, be prepared, everyone will think they can have a 'go' on it whenever they fancy!
I have just bought a Gemini Duo Pro 9.7-inch Tablet with Bluetooth Keyboard + Case through Amazon from a company called Bibi Mobile PC and Accessories for the amazing price of £80 but think they have recently put the price up.
Check this out on Amazon before you decide.
This offer has been running for a few days but finishes in 25 hours. Get a refurbished Kindle Fire direct from Amazon for £74:

Buy any iPad you won't regret it, if price is not a problem. More expensive but miles btter than anything else out there.

If you are on a budget get a Samsung Android or Nexus. Ignore everything else as junk.

If you want to buy a Tablet but really want a laptop, buy a Surface. It might be a collectors' item in a couple of years.

I didn't want the Ipad, as I am totally unfamiliar with apple. I do however feel comfortable with Android. I was looking at

HP Slatebook 10 x2

Is anyone familiar with it? Gets a very good review on Which.
I was an Apple virgin until i was given an ipad for work. Now it never leaves my side and I cannot imagine how i lived without it. It is so easy, convenient and quick.
I want one too, I've just received the Which? Guide, I'm working my way through it. There seems such a lot of choice and variables.
You say you WANT a tablet but do you NEED a tablet.

All the things you say you want to do can be easily done on a laptop but some may be hard work on a tablet.

For example typing a letter is not easy on a tablet, and it is a lot easier to connect your laptop to printer than to connect a tablet to a printer.
I wanted one after having a go on my grandsons one in a pub one evening. Poor kid had to ask for it back. I have the apple IPAD . I only use my computer first thing in the morning or for printing and for my Spacestation posts as all my links for that are on pc . Otherwise I can sit in the comfort of my chair with it .I just have the mini one which fits in my bag.
