Would you use one for drawing with pencils /pens or are they mainly for painting?

I regularly see a local artist sketching certain sections of Leeds/Liverpool canal as it snakes through Burnley and he is never without his easel.

I would have thought it was personal choice. It is, after all, just a tool, the craftsman chooses what they use it for.
