I'm running outlook on two laptops, one with windows 8, the other with windows 7. Outlook on the windows 8 laptop keeps having a massive slowdown on the send / receive, going down to a fey B / second. I've tried disabling add ons as was suggested by Microsoft but still keeps happening intermittently. It's sometimes fixed when I restart the computer but not every time. Appreciate any idea to fix.

I have had similar problems before.

How many accounts is it checking ?
Check all the account details are correct

If one then delete the account and re-install it

If multiple accounts then open the send/recieve details window and see which account its stalling on then do the same as above.

have you moved the .pst data file ? if so then make sure its in its default location

Failing the above uninstall and reinstall Outlook from scratch

Thanks bazwillrun, it's running 2 accounts, both are OK to send messages but neither will receive. If I uninstall, will it delete all of the messages in the folder?
it will if you dont save the .pst file, best to make a backup of the messages folder

if its not recieving then check your pop3 settings and your incoming server port number settings check they are the recommended ones by the email providers.

use the Test settings function to see if its working.
