Why do people write happy birthday messages to their very young kids on facebook when their kids don't have facebook and the parents will have already seen them and given them cards / presents etc?

I would guess in order to gain attention and possibly garner messages of goodwill from their Farcebook friends (not sure the R should stay in there in the word friends).

Not that I'm cynical, you understand......
It's not something I do, but a lot of my FB friends wish their small children happy birthday on their own page.

I think it's just the culture of publicly marking life events on FB.
Agree - it's letting the world know it's their kids' birthday, so Friends will wish them HB too. I don't see the point.
Mini Boo was 9 last weekend and I posted a FB message wishing her a happy birthday and she was quite touched to see messages from my friends on my page also wishing her all the best.

I think it's quite sweet, and harmless, each to their own I guess.
B00, I think that's OK if mini B00 sees the good wishes - but some post for their toddlers' birthdays, they can't read let alone see FB!
My kids are still quite small, so I hadn't really thought about older children, B00. That's a good point, at 9 I think I child is far too young to have their own FB page so seeing Mum or Dad's friends wish them Happy Birthday might be quite a nice thing for them.

There's no harm in it, better that some parents broadcast their love and affection for their children to all and sundry than ignore them altogether.
I can't see the problem.
I'm not on facebook, so whatever drivel people post doesn't affect me.
How can spreading a bit of happiness be wrong - makes a change from doom and misery.
I see no problem with it.
There seems to be a hardcore group of people who hate FB and will pick fault with every aspect of it and it's users, despite some of them never having had an account on there and only believing what they see or read in the press/news.
Hahahaha....I tried to 'like' daffys comment...says it all :)
