A Hacking At Bits Of Chicken Question

I have to take the wing bits off chicken quarters tomorrow (well, I don't HAVE to but will be). Can someone tell me the easiest way (was told to get a special gizmo but couldn't find one). Don't want a video and want to avoid actually touching the meat as much as possible. Thanks

Kitchen scissors ?

Haven't got any, have got various knives but am squeamish around meat (amongst other things). Maybe it was kitchen scissors I was meant to be looking for.
Rubber gloves?
Sher I never handle raw meat. I buy disposable gloves prepare the meat put it in the oven and then throw away the gloves.

As for cutting off the wings a good pair of scissors should do the job.

I use forks, don't want to touch it even using gloves. No kitchen scissors, back to hacking I suppose!
Got any secateurs?
Sher, What about buying oven ready, skinless boneless chicken breast?
Can't you do what I do, cook the chicken with all the bits on, then tear them off afterwards? They come away much more easily when they are cooked.
You make me laugh - its chicken surgery!

Its only a thought Sherrardk but - if this really bothers you, if bought at butchers they will do all of them for you in two minutes but I understand if not bought here. Still bear it in mind ---tell them exactly what you want & they will do it for you.


If you haven't got a chef's axe! - my mother used to use a secutors (might have misspelled this) you know -- what you use for cutting small branches /plants. Flatten the piece of chicken with a kitchen roll or T towell and 1 clean cut. Very sharp so watch your fingers! Sissors OK too as mentioned but some are not really designed for this job.

+ or you can put the piece of chicken in a clear plastic bag and cut through the lot so you dont have to touch it. Fantastic plastic great for this sort of thing.
Funny I also can't stand touching raw chicken. Other meats don't bother me but chicken turns my stomach. Use your disposable gloves and just cut through the joints with sharp knife. Lay it out on the chopping board and press down firmly through the joint it is quite easy.
If that squeamish I'd suggest asking someone else to do it for you.

The gizmo is probably what is known as a knife. (Although a good pull on each wing does the job.)

It's done! I buy the chicken this way as it is chicken destined for Morrisons (it says so on the packet) from the chicken factory shop - it would have been nearly £16 for 8 quarters but I paid 25p each for them (otherwise they wouldn't be having chicken).
