Does anyone have any advice as to how I get get to see a 1940 edition of Picture Post? I am trying to get a copy of a picture of my aunt, whose photo was in the magazine, which covered an article about evacuees. She was about 8 years old,and carrying a gas mask. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Your main library may have copies. Also lots of University libraries hold copies - where do you live?
There are also a couple of books aswell that have various pictures especially the war time ones.
Also many Picture Post photographers were very well known such as Bert Hardy, Humphrey Spender, and, occasionally, Bill Brandt so you aunt may have been lucky enough to been in one of these fellas photos and therefore may find the picture in a book by them.
But perhaps your best bet is here:

PP was started by Edward Hulton of Hulton Getty fame and all the images were transfered to the getty archive. You should find it here somewhere (although you may have to pay for a copy)
Ive just done a google image search of 'evacuees' and there are loads of pictures kicking about - it may very well be out there in cyberspace already.
I did a search on the getty site and didnt get much joy - they will have it but perhaps its not on the website.

Thanks Gary Baldy. I live in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, at the east end of the Central Line. However, I can travel up to London if you know of where a photo such as this might be archived.

Binky - the London library online catalogue is very complicated.
Here in Manchester its dead easy and i know for a fact our Central library hold copies of PP.
However from what i can work out Guildhall library carry copies. i'm not a 100% sure so i would ring them first and i would hope they could point you to where they would be found if they dont hold them.
If you want to buy a copy there are dealers about like darran suggests who can source and sell you copies.
Good luck.
