My next door neighbour works for a drinks wholesaler and often brings crates of beer back home.

As he doesn't drink he kindly gives them to me.

Usually they're a month or so out of date but the latest batch he's given me was out of date Oct 2010.

sip or tip? does beer really go out of date?

It will be fine. Pour into a glass, look,smell, taste and then enjoy.

Have a smell and a taste.
If it IS off then use it to make slug traps in your garden. The slugs won't be too fussy

i gave some to my bf that were over a year and he said they tasted flat and just 'off'

I'd open some up and if it isn't dead flat or tasted iffy I'd give it a go.

I'm more concerned about a wholesaler whose stock control is so bad they find three year old beer!

Well I had a few of them yesterday to no ill effect! They were still fairly well carbonated. Some of them were a little bit off clarity but were fine.

I guess some things you can get away with past sell by dates. I certainly wouldn't adopt the same blase attitude to meats, dairy products etc!
