I don't know where to put this question.

We have BT anytime phone tariff. I have just been on the phone to a friend and the call lasted 1hr, 15 minutes.

Now, will we be charged for the 15 minutes, or for 1hr, 15 minutes?

I think that you pay for 1hr 15 minutes.

Seems a bit poop to me.

I know that you can have an hour free and put the phone down and ring again and get another free hour. I'm not sure what happens if you go over the time.

I'm obviously hoping that the first hour was 'free'
Gosh, that's a crock! I time my calls if I'm in for the long haul, buggered if I'm giving anymore money to utilities than I have to.

We usually manage to say what we've got to say in the hour. We just had a bit more to talk about today. Oh, flip.
When I shifted on to the anytime tariff, the girl I spoke to at BT told me that if you go over the hour you will pay for the full call.

She advised me to put the phone down after the hour and call the person back.

Seems rotten that even if you go a minute over you get charged for the whole call.
I believe the others are right - you'll pay for the whole call because you've run over time. Easier to hang up and redial after 55 minutes.
PS - go on line and check your phone bill, it'll tell you!

Anyone know how much a local call costs per minute?
It's only for the excess minutes - about £1.50 - £1.80 at a guess.
12p daytime, 8p evening I think Boxy - there is now no such thing as a 'local call' - they are all the same cost.
Hope it wasn't an International call!
Tilly not Boxy
Yep, just checked the website, it's a hour, hang up and call back if you're going over the hour.
I just called BT to ask & the chap told me that if you're paying the surcharge for "Anytime Free Calls" (as I do) then you will be charged for the amount of time OVER the hour, NOT the 1st hour.
I've done that Tilly...just the once because I usually remember....must have been a guy on the other end....

I only paid for the extra couple of minutes and he was probably worth it...☺
I think it's 9p a minute if I am reading it right, tills. That's what it is on the other tariffs, according to what I'm looking at.
I'm with TalkTalk and regularly go over the hour with one particular friend but only get charged for the extra minutes. Not helpful I know but couldn't resist.
It's maybe changed since I went onto the tariff. I hope so, it's a bloomin' rip off if not!
we hardly ever use our landline these days, we have so many free minutes on our mobiles.

it looks as if I'm O.K. then, just having to pay for the extra bit of gossip.

Thanks everyone and particularly LIK for bothering to ring them. I suppose I could have done that myself.
