you cannot have anybody on your own passport, adults must have their own passport, only children under a certain age can be on one of the parents passport.
Just a quick post to follow up Norman's statement:

Everybody (even young babies) now needs an individual passport (or, for travel solely within the EU, a national identity card - see below). Only children who were already on an adult's passport prior to 5/10/98 can continue to travel on this passport.

Your wife should either already hold, or be able to obtain, a Hungarian passport (or Hungarian national identity card). Hungary is a member of the EU so your wife can travel to any EU country using just her identity card or passport (without any visas) to enter any member country.

Aaagh!

Please ignore the latter parts of that post. I've got some completely unrelated bits of paperwork on my desk about both Romania & Hungary. For some stupid reason I managed to get it into my mind that your wife is Hungarian rather than Romanian!!!!! SORRY!!!!!

Romania is, of corse, only an applicant for EU membership, so all of my ramblings about the EU are irrelevant. (The first part of the post remains valid, however).

Again, SORRY!!!

Chris
I'm trying to put matters right!

This Home Office site will tell you whether your wife needs a visa (and how to apply for one). From the information which I've just put into the form (Purpose of visit = Wife, Nationality = Romanian, Country of Residence = Spain) it appears that a visa is necessary and that applications are handled in Madrid.

With one more apology for my previous blunder (and with the sincere hope that I've now accurately answered your question),

Chris
