Ideas For 80's Themed Party.

Me and my bf are going to an 80's themed house party soon and we can't decide on outfits.
Thought I would come on here for a bit of help as we are running out of time to get sorted out.
My bf wanted us to go as an 80's couple but couldn't think of anyone we wanted to go as or who would be obvious enough who we were.
Can anyone think of anyone or failing that that just general idea for the 80's theme. either characters or clothes ideas.

you could be cunning and go dressed like 50s people and say you were characters from Grease.... because that's what people at fancy dress parties in the 80s were wearing.

Could you pull off Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis in their Top Gun gear, that would be cool! Big hair, shoulder pads, lots of glittery make-up, leggings under dresses? Can't remember what the guys looked like :-(

I went to an 80's party last year, I made up a Madonnaesque ensemble, lot's of people went down the Frankie's Relax route with baggy white off the shoulder tshirts with loads of beads, bangles and huge earrings. I'll have a look at the pictures again to see what the blokes wore.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have ordered a black t-shirt with white and hot pink 'Wake me up before you go-go' on it. and lots of hot pink accessories -hoop earrings,headscarf,leggings, bangles and beads. and will find a black skirt and/or black leggings.
Still need to sort bf out though. He had some good ideas and was going to go al out as supermario or even a carebear but now he just wants to go in faded jeans and a fred perry top. :(

Sounds like a trip to your local fancy dress hire shop might be in order for your OH - our local one has some great 80s costumes.
