I'm a final year student at uni who has managed to get by the past few years without actually knowing how to write a good essay. Now this year it's essential so i'm in a bit of a panic! Can ayone suggest a clear concise book that spells out how to write an essay from step 1 to more advanced skills because i can't trawl through WH Smith any longer. Oh and it would preferably have to cost less than a tenner (students are poor) (and lazy).

Which Uni are you at? Do they have a Department / Centre for Academic Practice? These can be really useful in helping with planning, content etc. Good luck & enjoy your last year - life doesn't get much better!
yeah, I'm in exactly the same situation. I dont know how to wirte essays even though I must have scarped through about 20/30 essays since I started. My uni has some stuff posted on their website that is supposed to help you but its very very basic. I dont want to just go along to my tutor or adviser and say "how exactly do you write an essay?" They might wonder how i've passed the last 3 years. But I might have to do that if I get sucky grades.
