American mobile phones

I am shortly going to New York and was wondering whether an American mobile would work here in the U.K. Any ideas? Cheers

The USA cellphone network operates on a different range of frequency.To use a UK phone in the USA you need a Tri Band phone ie it has a 3 frequency setting and will work in Europe also. You would need a tri band USA phone to work in reverse
