hi, i have receieved an unexpected payment into my bank account. The payment comes from the company my employer uses for it's payroll/HR but is prefixed on the bank statement "GBS Re xxxxx" where xxxxx is the name of the HR company.
Does anyone know what GBS might mean? A google tells me it MIGHT be government banking service which is to do with HMRC. There is a remote possibility that i am due a tax refund from 2012-2013 as i was on mat leave so had a small income for the last part of the year. But i just do PAYE, so rely on them to work it out for me, and wouldn't they have written to me if i was due a refund? Or just adjusted my tax code? And why a september refund (if that's what it is)

==HMRC does not refund tax directly into bank accounts ==

They do if you ask them to in your tax return
dzug bednobs said that she is paye therefore would not do a tax return
Helen, I've done them in the past though I was on PAYE, as I had other income - did it for about 10 years until they sorted me out :-)
