Can it really be a good idea to sell the Royal Mail? How much is it going to cost to send a letter to a remote address?

I don't want Royal Mail privatised.
very few people do cab53 but that won't stop them
No,not IMO sandyRoe,buut there is nothing we can do about it,they promise the usual ring-fencing on certain things but how long will that last?

I think there are safeguards around service built into the Royal Mail charter whoever owns it
I don't know what it'll cost but the price has gone up significantly already in recent years before privatisation, although maybe cynics will say this was part of a 'fattening up' process leading up to privatisation.
There is a lot of competition out there now. An example, I sent a parcel last week via Hermes Home Delivery cost me £6.49 signed for and they came to my home and collected it, free of charge. Same parcel Royal Mail wanted £16.20 not signed for.

It sounds as if "the last of the family silver" has acquired a bit of a tarnished reputation:)
Prices will go through the roof if it goes private.
It needs a lot of money for modernisation

and the govt is not willing to ante up the moolah

Howver it HAS taken over responsibility for the pension scheme so the post office workers seem to OK
Will they change the name . To Dear .Dear
don't say they are going to sack poor old Postman Pat ?

And what's to become of his black+white moggy? A few weeks on death row in an animal shelter then the long walk to the needle? Hardly bears thinking about.
