Am turning out cupboards and have severl tins of anchovies which have been there quite a while (probably a couple of years).Do you think I should throw them away?
Since the anchovies have already been boned, cleaned and preserved in salt or oil and sold in cans, then the likelyhood of them going "off" after a few years in the cupboard are remote, as is some people's wish to taste them, but they'l be "perfectly edible", but just not for my consumption THANKS. :-)
Love them! They will be fine. Make Spaghetti Aglio Olio. Boil up some spaghetti, fry olive oil, garlic and chilli, stir in some anchovies and stir through the hot spaghetti.....yum!
No, I haven't tried fresh anchovies. Do they sell them in Tesco, or Waitrose? We haven't got a fresh fish seller round here, but I know they have a small fish section in Tesco.
They will be perfectly fine, when doing a leg or shoulder of lamb, make slits and pop slivers of anchovies in - it enhances the meat flavour and no hint of a fishy taste at all.
