Morning all, we'll be travelling along the A75 from Dumfries to go to Cairnryan on Weds morning, does anyone know what this road is like, is it a fast dual carriageway or is it a slow road with tractors and what not driving along it.

We know it's about 80 miles but just wanted to know roughly how long it'd take and if we were likely to run into problems.

Thanks for any replies.

Precious little dual carriageway the last time I drove along it. And no end of trucks heading for the ferry. Allow a couple of hours to be safe. It's actually quite an attractive road, though, so enjoy the view.
One hour forty two minutes according to the AA but I find them rather optimistic and tend to add 10% or so, depending on how much urban travel is involved.

rocky, not a lot of dual carriageway, at peak times expect it to be busy, but we have never had any major delays, if there is an accident there is a very good loop alternative so don't panic x

Thanks all, just had a look on google earth and went along it. Ferry's at 1.30pm so we'll leave Dumfries between 11 and 11.30am, I do panic a bit when we have to catch a ferry, can't help it :)

I bet we get there with too much time to spare! Still it'll give the OH something to moan about ;)
Thanks again

Flip, just thought, latest ferry check in is 12.45, so we'll have to leave earlier still.
