Did anyone else almost miss what Paul said? If I heard correctly it didn't sound that bad to me, it wasn't a remark directed at Lloyd either. I struggled to understand why such a huge storyline has been built up from tonight's episode - maybe I missed something else that was said.

it can have a different meaning because it has been referred to old films where the goodies always wore white and the baddies always wore black so nothing to do with race in this case
After all this, I wish it were Lloyd and his family leaving.
So basically any black person can object to Wimbledon insisting on white clothes, or Lords for white cricket clothes - loopy completely!
Just watching it again and earlier, Lloyd has no problem putting on German accent and teasing Eileen.
Storylines now so ridiculous never watch it.
I have had enough of PC nonesense it doesn't matter what anyone says it will be jumped on and will offend someone......we fought 2 World Wars to retain our freedom and freedom speech.

In simple terms I will say what i want and have a right to my views as much as the sad people that want to silence white British Citizens. In general I mind my own business but when someone is offended by what they heard in a private conversation is a bridge too far. I suggest everyone reads politician Enoch Powell in his Rivers of Blood speech and make your own judgement on the content of that speech.
You posting in disguise there, gerster?
No Disguise HC......play the white man did you read my post? Di you read Enoch Powell? Are you plying the race card?
As we are all colour blind on an anonymous forum, it is impossible to play any race card.

It does seem strange to register on a forum to post with such strong views on a soap opera thread.

How did you find AnswerBank? How did you find this thread?
To change the subject slightly (and someone on here has already mentioned Ken Barlow). I see they've written him out by having him visit Adam (his grandson?) in Canada who isn't well !!! It will be a long visit ......
just another reason for me to turn it off again, only just came back to it after the long drawn out tyrone saga. its a stupid storyline and i for one have voted with my remote and will watch something else.
Have the queries on the "full" saying been answered yet?
then all tv viewers must be racists if they don t repond and never watch corrie again
all viewers should refuse to watch corrie anymore
?
play the white man just means be a good guy, in old films the "goody" would wear white, and the "baddy" would wear black to show clear difference. it had nothing to do with race.
The phrase was in use long between the film industry.
This storyline is not really about the comment in my opinion, it's about the way these seemingly innocent remarks do upset people.
One interesting point is how easily it could have been sorted with an apology (on both sides) in the pub at the time of the incident.

Also, as a black woman I was very aware of the 'Ive got black friends comment' from Paul ... making him think he can't say anything to offend. Just because a person has fat friends doesn't make their comments about fat people appropriate.
Many black people ignore comments everyday of the week, good white friends may not even realise they cause offence. I reckon Lloyd's response was that of a grown man in front of his daughter. Not many men enjoy being 'embarrassed' in front of his child.
