Deleting/unpinning Icons Windows 8 Desktop

Have a few icons that don't wish to have displayed.Can't recall how to unpin/delete.For example have icon people group and wish to get rid of it.
when logging in click on desktop and icons displayed but some have appeared don't want.this is windows 8.can get rid of such from my windows mobile but doesn't seem the same on laptop.thanks.

I would imagine that it is the same for Windows 8 as all previous editions.

Right click on the icon and then click delete.
