Further to my earlier question, what's the record for banned answers on this site?

I'm up to three - all in the past week(!) - and I know this must only be a tiny number compared to others?

Also, what does it take to get an answer banned? If someone disagrees with you, can they just report the answer and have it automatically banned? Could someone just arbitrarily click on answers, report them, and get them banned?

Banning questions and answers is at the discretion of the Editor.

Reasons can vary from obvious offesive comments, profanity and so on, but can also include answers that drift off the point of the question. An answer would not be banned simply because it is reported - any reported answers and questions are assessed and a decision is made for the good of the site and its visitors.

I have experienced answers being banned along with questions, when the whol thread has been deemed unsuitable for continuation - the last example being a response to the controversy over the Islamic cartoons.

For a site to be open and democratic, there has to be a degree of control to ensure that respondents are not intimidated or upset - and The Editor does an excellent job of policing this little corner of the Web.

No argument there - although maybe a little stricter than I anticipated (I'll learn dammit!)
