The Dorset barn owls are down to three from five....the older chicks scoffed them:-(
According to the blog 2 of the Norwich falcons have been found dead near the cathedral:-(

Sadly carrust these things happen all the time in nature, it's just it seems more personal since technology has allowed us to follow these birds (and animals) from the egg to when they leave the nest.
Something else to get upset about. I'm not going to look at any more web cams.
I found the jackdaw attack - depressing
But the jackdaws were o.k. in the end. You do mean the Springwatch ones, I take it, Peter.

Things don't bode too well for the smallest of the Dorset barn owl chicks:-(

It's nature tilly, not a fluffy-bunny Disney cartoon. Only the strongest of the chicks will survive.
Owls start incubating as soon as they lay their eggs, thats why there's a size difference. If food is short the smallest gets eaten & so on.

Now the good news! All 5 of the kesrel chicks seem to be doing well. The sparrowhawks are thriving & if you go to the Lincoln falcon blog, you'll see them intracting with visitors to the cathedral:-)
