Why is it that a lot of local authorities, when they find they have to economise, always seem to want to close care homes? I cannot believe that within their multi million pound budgets with all the waste incompetence that goes with it, they expect us to believe there aren't other areas that can't be cut that won't affect the vulnerable. I suspect it is more to do with making a political point, so they can blame the government and the 'savage cuts'.

council are not allowed to run nursing homes - they ae care homes
Sorry, Missed that one.
Didn't know that bednobs.
so no council runs a nursing home, how do they get paid for then if a person goes into one.
Council pays the private owners or the client pays privately.
licence to print money..
the same way they get paid for if a person goes into a council run home - either self funding or means tested. If a person is in a nursing home and hey are eligible the NHS pays an FNC contribution (to cover the cost of of the registered nurse elemement)
