In my opinion, whoever you choose, if you have decided upon "your name"@.............then it seems it's easy for spam to pick you up, but if you locate a few numbers within your name, ie fred46smith64@ the number confuse, so the risk of getting spam is decreased. Anyone agree?

i disagree. spam providers have a shared list with other spam providers. all you have to do is give your e-mail to one bad company (via registering for a website usually) and you will be inundated. spamming is a lucrative business. they will not be put off by numbers.

secondly, to actually answer the question, i use g-mail which offers tons of storage so you never have to go through old messages and delete them. it is also compatible with outlook/thunderbird. i have never had a problem with them. yet

msn is also good. run by microshaft so you should expect half decent service for all the money that they have. i did have a problem for a while that my sent messages kept resending themselves so people thought i was spamming them. also offers virus checking of attachments.

yahoo, once again ok but a lot of incest spam from other yahoo users.

the point that im trying to make is that the big (free) e-mail providers will all be relatively similar. i use all three of the above + lycos and aol.
Gmail.
gmail is (imho) the best web-based email system.

but better than anything else is your own mail server, running the things and bayesian filters you want to run yourself. of course, most don't do this as it isn't trivial to set up.
If you are an Orange mobile phone customer then I suggest www.orange.net - althoughit is only a 10MB storage limit, I think it is the best as you can get a text alert everytime anyone emails you. You can use it either web based or via outlook.

bad things is that is has no spam filter though.
Well apart from my normal mail I also have a yahoo account and although I get lots of spam it never ever gets by the spam filter and I just delete it periodidcally and never have to bother with it
found a problem with g-mail. according to web based news groups, gmail has a vulnerability which allows other gmail users to access accounts by just knowing the user name. its not particularly difficult to do either. google is knew to e-mail but i thought that they would be less retarded than that.
boobesque: I don't know of any vulnerability like that. I am totally sure it does not exist.

And google is not as new to it as you think. Gmail was tested within the company for over a year before it was released for the public to use.
