You don't have to go to the trouble of leaning Arabic to read the Koran. Even if you did, there are words in the original that no one today can accurately translate anyway. If you did learn Arabic and read a modern copy of the Koran, you are not reading the literal, unexpurgated words of God – just a human, modern day interpretation of it.

The English translations are more than accurate enough for a person to understand the message of Islam with all its subtle and non-subtle meanings. Give it a go!
