our probable future queen was just on the news boarding a train for Paris, she joined 3 blokes sitting at a table in the carriage. Not one of them appeared to stand up as she sat dowm, or did i miss them showing their manners? I'll watch it again later.

alas, old fashioned manners are not as common as even a few years ago. As far as it being Camilla instead of a non royal woman - in my opinion, our Royal family (of which she is a member) are irreplaceable and I'm immeasureably grateful for their existence.

If this was my thread Peter Pendant's post at 21:26 on Monday would have best answer!

(I like the Queen and Princes Wills and Harry though.)
im a forgetful old gentleman, i'd probably curtsey

Just another 'Hanger-on' at the moment, You have to earn respect,
she hasn't!
Baldric, I do not know you but if we met I would treat you with respect. You have not 'earned' my respect so what is the difference?
^ Agree.
I don't know if she ever will, Baldric.
Sorry, that was for you baldric.

I treat everyone with a degree of respect, I'm referring to the fact the
OPer seems to think she deserves more than the basics because of
what she is.
I am an anti-royalist, so I agree with all the anti remarks, but going back to the original thread, from dot, it would be lovely to go back to the time when men stood up when a lady came in (not royalty, just any lady), opened the door to allow her to go through it first instead of letting it bang in her face, walked on the outside of the pavement to protect her, and so on, but it will never happen. We have given up all these little niceties to be equals. So we had better get used to it. Personally, I think the gains are much greater than the losses. I liked being protected and taken care of though, I must admit (said wistfully).
starone, speak for yourself, my OH does all of those things save getting up when I come in the room, he will get up for other women though. My grandson opens doors for older people, male or female, without being asked. If you don't teach manners to children they won't learn will they?
//fair enough, however, your opnion on her should not prevent you agreeing that protocol and manners should have meant those guys should have stood up as she joined them. //

Forgive me , but what a load of cr*p
