Two good friends of mine - the nephew and fiancée of my boyfriend, were on it.
Apparently one of the engines blew up and they had to emergency land - it's on Sky news but I don't have sky, so can get very little information as yet.

They were on their way to Norway.

All ok, but very shaken as they had to emergency evacuate.

What makes it even worse ismthatmtheynwere on their way to see a poorly 3 year old newly-diagnosed with a tumour.

This has been the worst couple of months, almost ever.

I have TWR, and it was terrifying, I am a nervous plane passenger - even turbulence scares me :-)
It`s funny TWR, before 9/11 people said "Have a good flight", thesedays it`a "Have a safe flight".
Just to be a bit pedantic, Bbbananas, the aircraft did not “crash land”. It was forced to make an emergency landing - something quite different.

Crash landing definition: “To land (an aircraft), under circumstances in which a normal landing is impossible, in such a way that damage to the aircraft is unavoidable”

Whilst I agree that it must have been extremely unsettling for all the passengers, I’ve been on a military aircraft that crash-landed causing the undercarriage to collapse and believe me it is considerably more traumatic (especially as we knew well before landing that it was likely to happen).

The aircraft at Heathrow made an almost normal landing (albeit on reduced power) and no damage to the aircraft was caused by the landing. This aircraft crash landed at Heathrow in January 2008:

Yes, TWR, I’ve been in an aircraft struck by lightning whilst in the air. Not very pleasant but nowhere near as scary as the tremendous thrill I had when lucky enough to be taken for an air experience flight in an RAF English Electric Lightning trainer in 1967. They were known as the “frightening Lightning” and I know why !!!

I posted this 10 minutes after I had received a text this morning telling me a second-hand account what had happened, I was still half asleep, so Forgive me if it sounded a little over dramatic, I was just repeating almost verbatim what I had been told.

I have since spoken to my friend who was on the plane and now know that everyone is safe.
I doubt there was any problems with your initial post, I do not make waves as others do on an error.x

;-)
Salla, I don't blame you for being anxious, I would have been . The media are still saying it was a bird strike. Chin up ...have a gin x
Question Author
Noooo.... Too early yet !
Blimey , Salla, never too early. Have you heard from your friends ?
Question Author
Yeah, they're a bit shaken, but relieved. They are just eager now to get to Oslo to see the little boy they set off to see this morning.
Salla, tbf you did have a ? on your post.

Question Author

" the pilot said part of the engine had come away.?? i dont think the pilot would say that to the passengers lol ,and it hadn't anyway and no the engine did NOT explode
the engine cover came away not part of the engine(thats like the bonnet of your car to a jet engine) ,this happens very often

Fgs, why pick holes in what I said or wrote? I was just repeating what I had been texted at 9.30 a.m. As a 2nd hand account from a passenger on the plane.

I am not a reporter or news presenter. I was starting a thread as someone who knew 2 people on the stricken plane. That's all. Forgive me if the facts weren't strictly 100% correct at that time.

I don't care who was wrong, right, almost right.,., I'm just pleased my friends and all other passengers are okay. Not bothered whether it was a flock of birdsong a bleedin' elephant, an explosion or a soddin' volcanic eruption.
Calm Salla. Calm. Nice thoughts.
Question Author
Well, there are 2 or 3 who have been quite determined to pick holes in my original post. Quite unnecessary I think. It was not a factual news report, it was a "Omg, what next... "Sort of thread as it has been a sh1te couple of months.

(I have a gloss paint fume headache and am narky !!!!!!)
