when looking head on to my friends laguna , it sits lower on the drivers side .could this be the suspention?

Most likely the car is a couple of years old and has mostly been used only by the driver. The suspension will have settled slilghtly - nothing to worry about

The shock absorbers will make no difference at all the height of a normal vehicle,
Yeah, excepted expensive things that have self levelling suspension built in to the shock absorbers.
