Hi Steve,

How did you get on? I'm still staring at nine....

Richard

richard, I'll give you nine if you've got 20 or 25
got 20 now but good do with 40!

hi macparc. A misunderstanding. I'm staring at nine unanswered clues not 9 down. I'm missing 24, 29, 33, 34 and 40 down and 36, 42, 44 and 49 across, although I've got some ideas.

I make 20 Official Residence (anag.) and 25 Fit To Be Tied.

Have you got 40 down or 36 across?

OK. Got 40d now. Had it in my mind all along but couldn't justify it properly. Anybody got 36ac?
34 looks like obdurate, 44 no idea, 36 looks like descendants, 24 looks like elaine 48 & 33 i'm stuck for now. Any help, explainations gratefully received
I'm thinking 44 is GREEN. It's part of a (golf) course and has three (compass) points at the end. Don't know why GR is potter, though.

I've got 48 as (Noel) COWARD (cod war anag.) and I've got 33 as DES (man) TROY (city).

Could someone tell me why 24 is Elaine and 42 is Preston?
Got it! 24 is EVADNE (eve all about a rocky and).

44 GREEN because potter gets 3 points in snooker

42 is BRISTOL as in "shipshape and bristol fashion"

Can you help explain 36 descendants and 34 obdurate - and that will put it to bed

gunners = ra, debut, o for outside left

decants = discourse round end

I still haven't got or rather don't understand my answers for 52, 62, 71 and 55

sorry I meant descants = discourse
ok, now only 52 to go
52 - defends, i.e. D-E-F would be end of a six-letter alphabet
I'm just stuck on 39, although I'll probably kick myself when I get it
Got it! (And I didn't kick myself that hard)
thanks a lot. I'd got the right answer but didn't know why. it's so simple when you know. could have told you 39 as it was the first I got. Your last is my first and all that. throw a stick, and let that lead you to the answer.
I agree with your working out for obdurate - but where is the clue to it? i.e stubborn or hard.
Help please on my last one. 8 down. Is it beatitude? I do not know the Michael Jackson reference. Thanks.

Hi, ramsfan

62 escorted is took. co = company in anagram (storm) of desert.

71 rely is depend on, port is drink, ed (editor) is journalist.

55 middle = centre, spell = time, a centimetre is not much!
