How can I read a wmv file on an AppleMac? I've got Quicktime can I convert it to that or would it be easier to send it to a friend who just uses a PC.

Try the VLC (VideoLan) player for the Mac. See here:-

There is a version of Windows Media Player for the Mac

will iTunes not convert it for you?

on iTunes/windows, adding a .wma file will prompt you to convert it (to aac usually).
As far as I remeber fo3nix while you are correct in that windows will convert the WMA files in iTunes it doesn't work like that on my Mac.

Just found this in today's Micro Mart:-
