I think it's fairly standard.. shocking, huh? but don't change them just because of the date, only when they actually need it.
I assume you mean the front tyres as the car is front wheel drive they wear more than the rear.
Certain tyres tend to wear more than others esp sprts or low pofile makes as they may use a softer compound to give more grip.
Michellins on the other hand can be very hard wearing. I just replaced two front tyres that had done 35k. I think 12k is quite rapid wear for normal driving though.
You should easily get 30k from the front and 60k from the rear from such a car. Check the tracking on the front wheels (fairly inexpensive garage job) as poor tracking can cause rapid tyre wear.
a lot depends on the type of driving to, here in Milton Keynes with all the roundabouts we get far above average wear on front tyres, also as PUG100 says make of tyre is also very critical...
My 2000 1.2 Corsa with 58000 mls has just had the last pair of its original tyres replaced. About 25000 mls I swapped them front to rear & the 1st pair were renewed at 56000 mls - Michelins!
That is a very poor wear rate. You should get three times that. So , is your suspension set up right? Have you had a knock agaist the kerb or worse?
I presume you are using 'first class' tyres and no some really cruddy cheapo ones.
