It is now 408 years since the brutal and savage attempt to murder King James I of England. Some say we live in a much less violent society than years ago, if this is true isn't it now time that a final line was drawn under this historic case and closure put on the whole affair?

This one murder attempt has taken up enough time, what with regular burnings, not to mention the huge costs in resources and police time, after all they have already tried, found guilty and hanged members of the gang that committed this act.

I'm confused....
Have to admit, having read the first paragraph I was expecting a link to some sort of Time Team or National Geographic programme......
And I'm pretty sure none of the suspects in the linked article have been hanged.
It's about AOG's Stephen Lawrence thread.
Really? There must be a tenuous link there. Somewhere.
I agree, it seems pointless to celebrate and mark the event so long afterwards. Having exposed a shocking institutional bias against Catholicism we can be pretty sure that the country has overcome such trouble. I bet there wouldn't have been nearly as much fuss if Guy Fawkes were Protestant.
... or if the plot had worked
Ooohh, ok. I get it now. Huh.

maybe James 1st has a mum like Doreen Lawrence who seems to have become a heavyweight in getting a reaction from both the world of politics and media. Its not like the police havent mishandled loads of other murder enquiries with wrongdoing, predudice and inefficiency.
I still don't see the reference between King james and Steven lawrence or the firework through the letterbox murder/manslaughter.

Can someone care to enlighten me?
I think the link is literally just parody.
Mrlomas, it's a dig at another post in the news section.
Although I've actually know idea where that link comes into it.
*no idea.

Gggrrrr.
Steve, we would be encouraged to celebrate but not as we do know.

For one thing, in Catholic countries you're allowed to light your own fires and let off your won fireworks, the council doesn't have to do it.
... and I repeat EB's typo in reverse...
What? No inquiries? No retrials? No allegations of institutionalised discrimination? No evidence obtained under torture ? No guilty men walking the streets still ? Hardly worth making a fuss about.

But , my Lords, may I mention R v Raleigh (Sir Walter) ? This is an application for leave to appeal out of time. My client feels that his case deserves mention and ....

Satire or Parody - take your pick. Sorry if it confused peeps. And thanks to ummmm for early recognition of where I was coming from.

P.S. The link was a bit weak I admit, but couldn't find anything more relevant from the Mail.

P.P.S. Perhaps I should have posted under Jokes.

P.P.P.S. Or not posted at all :)
