Ive recently sent off a job application in which they asked for a passport size photograph. The job is for an administrator, i would understand if i was going to be model or something but surely they should look at your credentials first then see what you look like.

I didnt send a photograph because i didnt have time to get one and because i didnt agree with them asking for one. Am i in the wrong here?

Oink indeed. Point made.

Voila !

PS : Good luck for the job, Ali ! ;-)

Glad to see you appreciate helpful and thoughtful advice. I must say I was rather surprised at the slagging my efforts seem to have merited. It's a good job my cynicism is more than a match for it. I had thought that my tip on the use of the word "its" a few days ago would have been of benefit to a lot of people. However, your last par:

Yes it did start off with me asking about a photo for a job so why pick on the spelling and grammer that wasnt the question. Oink!!

...would have been rather better as:

Yes, it did start off with me asking about a photo for a job. So why pick on the spelling and grammar? That wasn't the question. Oink!
Ali, did you get an interview after all that?
Has this had the record for the most answers?

No i didnt! but the advert is still in the paper.

I wasnt gonna bring this up cos i knew i'd be beratted for not using English properly when i should know better but i do have a qualification in English so i know how to use it (being English also helps!). The thing is, i see coming on here as having a break from the normal, mundane things of life so perhaps i am a little 'careless' with my words. It's a relief to be able to just help people by answering questions and expressing your opinions without having to go over it again to check everything as i usually have to.

Ali - I agree with you. It's a break from the tedium of modern life. We aren't holding a NASA think tank, it's a light hearted Q&A. There'll always be people who aren't happy until they can feel superior to the rest of us great unwashed.

They just called me for an interview!! YAY!!

well done! Thank god for that is all I'll say!!!! :-) hope it went well xx

ali, if your gonna use that chestnut photo of yourself could i suggest a bit of lippy.( without it you look so plain.) also get your hair done if you get an interview, people do tend to base their judgements on looks rather than ability.

good luck with future applications. x
