I can understand why her policies were disliked by many, and they are of course entitled to disagree with them and how she enforced em. Its just the glee over the fact that someone has died rests uneasily with me, it seem ghoulish. Personally speaking...RIP Maggie.

I think a lot of Thatcher-hatred is borne out of fear. There are very few who could match her steely determination, courage and conviction. The Unions tried to defeat her; they failed. She saw off Argentina. She had class, strength and she served her country proud.
I disagreed with about 90% of her policies. Yes, she was a strong, resolute leader. She knew her ideals and stuck with them. She was grounded, hardworking, dogmatic and probably the strongest leader, Churchill apart, that this country had seen in a century. All of the Thatcher-positive vox pops have said this.
Now, I'm not comparing her policies with any of history's despots; that would be a tad churlish. What I am comparing are the views of supporters. All of the above attributes could be attached to many historical figures, good or bad: Her personality traits were irrelevant. She went up against many people that she loathed, like Derek Hatton and Arthur Scargill, with blatant disregard to the collateral damage; misery, poverty and turmoil for millions of people. She sold-off numerous nationalised industries. British Gas was one. She declared that anyone was welcome to apply for shares.....but it had to be a minimum of £400-worth. Mmm. So, millions of hardworking taxpayers who didn't have the equivalent of today's £700, one day owned a part of British Gas and the next day owned none of it. There are many more things, but my appetite for hating the woman has now waned.
Well for 1 she didn't initiate two gulf wars, one was Bush senior the other Jr finishing daddies war - 2 and how can getting money back from the EU make her a laughing stock? She might have been SEEN as a laughing stock if she hadn't got it, it angered the French, but then anything that angers the French is okay by me - and also remember - who kept on voting her in?She was right about the Falklands - seems only you and Lord Carrington think otherwise
Why are there so many Thatcherite sycophants on this site? Do you not realise that she was the architect of most of what is wrong with this country today?
Some people are just not comfortable ripping a person to shreds on the day they died.
correct the above, "what is right" - the issue being how the Labour Party imploded to then rise with socialist conservatism and then destroy the country as Brown took them back to the excess days of spend spend spend and let all and sundry in.....If Thatch had not stepped in Britain would have decayed to the point of being beyond Greece today. What were we called back in the late 70s "The Sick Man of Europe."
no she wasn't, and she had been out of office for years, if there were things that could have been changed, they should have been, i put more blame on Blair for his sycophantic sucking up to Bush, and leading us by our noses into war, not to mention the open door policy he allowed, without thinking of the long term consequences for the British people.
she is vilified because of standing up to the unions, for seeing that they had a stranglehold on the economy, that failing industries weren't going to be saved by endless public money cash injections. She also realised that the world was changing rapidly, and was instrumental in getting world leaders, some of whom were long time enemies to sit down and talk, not least the iron curtain which had been firmly drawn shut. She saw that Gorbachev was a man she could do business with, not like the old rulers of Russia. Still you go on hating, let us see what the historians make of it all.
Sorry for the death of anyone but will shed no tears over Thatcher. A loathsome warmonger rejected in the end by even her own party. Ridiculous to hear that the Conservatives are going to "stage" a crocodile ceremonial funeral as a show case to take the people's minds of the mess they have got the country in.
I did not like her, I did not like her Policies, She broke up family's no end in Yorkshire, Nottingham paid the price by not backing you the rest of the miners as they found out ( You will be alright saying by Thatcher ) what I do admire about this person, she had Brains, she had common, she had Guts to stand up against the E.U. Not like this puppet D.C. he will never ever be in the same class at M.T No matter how long he's in power, as O bama said, Is he ( D.C.) some kind of joke. as regards the burial, Why! & who will be paying for the security etc?
A loathsome warmonger
