I'm so relieved that all the Grand National runners and their riders came home safe and sound. Great!

It looked like a really well run race - think the stern pre-race 'talking to' the jockeys had about rushing the first fence plus the kinder fences made a huge difference. Do think the racing industry as a whole has taken on board the concerns the public have cos imo the caliber and fitness of the horses looked better this year - it's an industry like many others -...

Agreed
All the rebuilding and saftty measures seem to have been worth while

Yes Nibble, it does seem to have done some good. Hope it continues in future years.
Nice to see a Scottish jockey winning.
Is he the first Scottish jockey to have won?
I just hope that everyone pronounces the winning jockeys name correctly. Ryan Mania (Man-e-a)

Do think the racing industry as a whole has taken on board the concerns the public have cos imo the caliber and fitness of the horses looked better this year - it's an industry like many others - the cruelty involved in our meat and leather industry is horrendous but most of us eat meat and wear leather. I don't advocate animal cruelty but am realistic enough to accept that in today's world some people have a narrow view of some activities. Great result and a great race run by brave horses and their riders.
Yes good news.
You Scots are so nationalistic! (excuse the pun) I never look to see where the jockey is from.
i think the horse had something to do with it. Good race by the way, some fallers, but no fatalities, good..
The horses can't wait for next year to have their arses skelped again by mindless midgets.
Couldn't agree more

Perhaps the haters will turn their attentions to real animal cruelty instead of their once a year Grand National rants, doubt it though
I'm glad too. I find it very hard to watch because it makes me nervous. Not just for the horses but for the jockeys too.
Well said Elvis...Us horse race lovers can enjoy racing for another 12 months.
at least they are pampered and running around fields rather than ending up in a burger.
"at least they are pampered and running around fields rather than ending up in a burger. "

Until they're no longer profitable anyway...
BOO - hurrah :-)
Absolutely ! I was so relieved after ! It was a very smoothly run event, very calm. Looks like the changes have made a difference. I always hold my breath during the race ! So happy the horses all made it.
B00, not necessarily, Shar has homed a racehorse which still gets the best treatment and a lot of retired race horses get paraded at meetings. I can't imagine owners ill treating horses that have given them so much pleasure
wharton, those horses won't need to wait till next year, expect some will be racing sooner than that.
So if there wasn't horse racing they'd go straight to a slaughterhouse.
That would be better then?

You don't know what you are talking about...Stop the horse racing industry and put thousands more on the dole.
You're talking nonsense.

Let's stop making motor cars because they kill people.
