Do you reckon that you could still get in to a top university if u studied 4 as's in your first year, and then dropped 2 and did 1 new one as well as keeping the other original 2 to do as A2, so u would end with 2 A2's and 3 AS's??? quite a wordy question there probably doesnt make much sense

not much, no!

On the whole I think you would be better sticking to 3 A2s and 1AS. It very much depends on the university and course, but they fall into two types.

Some universities are recruiters and have to work hard to fill their places - these are more likely to make offers based on points and so 3 ASs would be fine.

The 'top universities' are selectors, having more applicants than places and so can dictate their offers more precisely. They will probably prefer 3 A2s.

The book "Degree Course Offers" by Brian Heap gives loads of detailed information, and should be available at a college or town library.

Quite a few uni's dont accept as's when calculating your points so be careful when you apply. i agree with Gnu, best sticking to 3 A2's.
