Want to know for a friend (she's not on the internet to ask for herself) who has noisy neighbours, where she could buy a relatively reasonably priced tape recorder that doesn't record the actual machine's "noise" as well as the what is wanted to be recorded. (Does that makes sense?). She has one which she can record on but there's more machine background noise than the actual recording.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Maplin sells dictation machine for about £20
You could go onto your local Freegle/Freecycle and ask for an old cassette recorder. There are a few about, and old tapes can still be re-recorded.

Thanks for that, not sure it is the right thing as it needs to be sensitive enough to record "through walls" she says (!) to keep a record of the noise she suffers. Maybe I should look at Maplins though and see what I can find.
