However half round the round about the lorry driver encroached onto my lane hitting the side of the ar and damaging it. When eventually pulled over he got abusive and said it was my fault, of which i dont think it was. Any help much appreciated

Which of the lanes were you and he in when it happened?
...... and if you were in the middle lane with the lorry on your right, did the road markings in the middle lane allow for vehicles going both straight-ahead and turning right?
Admit nothing and leave it to the insurance companies to manage.
Yes, don't admit anything just leave it to the insurance .
you need to go back to that roundabout and takew photos of the lane markings and any signage to establish whether you were in the correct lane. I don't think it will matter if you were in error as he should still have checked his left hand side, but it will maybe clarify things for you. Were there any witnesses, say a passenger in your car?
roundabouts are a notorious area for insurance claims, even the non fault companies steer clear of these types of claims.
I dont normally defend lorry drivers but it can be extremely difficult for them to stay in their lane due to the turning circle of the vehicle.
I work in MK which has dozens of roundabouts i always give lorries the right of way and back off, especially when im in the outside lane.
( it can be even more fun when the lorries are foreign and havnt got a clue where they are going)
if the lorry was beside you then one of you were in the wrong lane, which side was he on?
There's one roundabout I know with three lanes where all three lanes allow for right turning
Are you sure you wasn't overtaking on the inside? It happens all the time.

Gotta have eye's everywhere these day's.
Folk need to stay in their lanes, although I've never driven a HGV so don't know how easy that is or how much space you need to give. I'd go along with Eddie's advice. Both state your case and let the insurance agree what proportion of blame to apply to each.
And Maydup :-)
yes there are always exceptions factor but most aren't like that.

Lozzag, can you give us more information and ideally show us the actual roundabout on google maps.
If the HGV was an artic, the trailor would have crossed the line of the lane, with respect, you should have given the HGV plenty of space & hung back, For the driver to seen you & look ahead can be very difficult due to the height of the cab, some have STEP MIRRORS to see cars / bikes that come up on the inside & out of his / her view, do you have any witnesses? Lesson learnt here, give HGVs plenty of space, you can see him /her, but they can not see you.
No point in anything other than handing it to the insurance and let them sort it out. In 90% of cases they just split the damages 50/50 , I can't see anything other than that happening here.
