When wanadoo started offering a 2meg service i did the checks and it said i can receive the 'up to' 2meg service so i converted.i then had nothing but problems with the line 'dropping out'.i dropped back to 1meg and all was fine.after bt looking into it for me i was told that it was all down to my distance from the exchange.

this being the case and with new services being offered all the time alongside exchange upgrades how do i know if or when i can safely upgrade ? Is there some tool that can safely advise what i could receive before i upgrade ?

I use wanadoo also. Did you use the facility on the wanadoo site to check availability? Only certain areas of the country can receive 2 meg at the moment.

thats the problem.when you search it says you can receive 'up to 2 meg connection'....this may be true but my line wont support a 2meg connection.i used a tool once that measured my speed as 1.5meg.what i want is something that tells you exactly what i can safely receive so when i check in the future,i know that i can safely pay for an upgrade safe in the knowledge that im not starting all my problems up again !
