my friend has a vauxhall 2000 model and the ignition key is "chipped".

The key itself is ok, the car starts, but the key cover where you hold it is taped together as it was smashed.

She was told that a replacement key would cost 125.

Is there any way round this???..unchip the immobiliser or whatever

Not sure who quoted 125, my local Vauxhall agent will cut and code a standard non remote key for an Astra for roughly 50.
