Studying Online

Has anyone ever done an online course either through learn direct or ics etc? Did you stick at it and was it worth it in the end?
I'm thinking of studying this way and am interested in hearing people's views both pros and cons on it.

Did Open Uni, mostly online but termly meetings with tutor at local Uni - 2y degree.
