It can't (easily) be demolished because it's a listed building.

It's going to be converted into apartments.
On 16 July 2012, the BBC reached an agreement to sell the site to Stanhope plc for £200 million. The building is due to close on 31 March 2013 and will be redeveloped to include flats, office space, a cinema and hotels. The television studios will be refurbished and leased to production companies including the BBC from 2014. The BBC's commercial businesses, BBC Worldwide and BBC Studios and Post Production will lease back office space.

I remember going there in the 1950s, my dad worked there from time to time.
They said on BBC news this morning that it will become a cinema, hotel, apartments, shops and some of the studios will be refurbished for programmes like Strictly and Children In Need/Comic Relief.
