The final clue of a ST WWI? quiz (354 5 Oct 2003): It gives the grid reference of a village church as 80 miles east-north-east, for which the compiler and his friend immediately head with their extra clue of an imitation pearl necklace, to which is attached a number: 65000. Its relevance is lost upon them. And then, inspiration! The pearls; 65000. Ten miles southeast of the church, is the site of an airfield (Twinwood Airfield, just north of Bedford) whose restored control tower will always be linked with the musician. (Glenn Miller, who often played tunes called A String of Pearls and Pennsylvania 6-5000).

If any Sherlock Holmes type of puzzler and there are several of you who appear regularly on this site- can connect a village church with a grid reference of 80 miles east-north-east, that is also 10 miles northwest of Twinwood Airfield, to A String of Pearls and Pennsylvania 6-5000 and Glenn Miller, it would greatly help this old feller to come down off the walls that this puzzle has driven me up! Help, buddies, please!!

Verymany thanks Brian for your friendly effort..

But Oakley is only 4 miles n.w. of Twinwood and its church doesnt seem to hint at a pearl necklace or 6 5000. (Such a nuisance being as thick as I am!) Im gong to have to get a tooth-comb and comb a few teeth.

Any other suggestions please, anyone?

A wild guess.

The area 10m NW of Twinwood is in the Nene Valley where there were (and still are) corn mills of various sizes and sorts. Could connect with the name Miller?

I haven't worked out which particular village is referred to though.
