Got my swab results today, and apparently I DO have thrush. But my doctor is giving me antibiotics, and apparently, said that although it will clear my thrush, it could possibly give me another bout of thrush, so he has given me a pessary and canistan cream.

But I'm confused. If my antibiotics are for thrush, how then can it cause it?

am very glad everything is fine. it must be a naasty bout if yuo need the antibiotics. the problem is thrush can create a cycle of treatment and cause as the delicate balance of bacteria gets upset. my sister suffers from thrush and no longer takes antibiotics when bad (although i am not saying don't take them - they are needed) but relies on the cream and pessary that can give immediate relief. also the good old standby of natural yoghurt can work wonders for any future problems.

If I use antibiotics for say a chest infection I usually get thrush.

The pessary and canistan will work wonders in conjuction with your anti's and if you do get another bout it wont be so bad and another pessary will probably clear it.Give it a day and you will feel so much better.

thrush is a fungus, not a bacterium. Which antibiotic have you been prescribed?
Woofgang - it can become a bacteriem if it gets a grip as which happened to me.Mine progressed into my bowel so its not as straight forward as we all may think.Anti's were then necessary.

Most antiboitics have a side effect of some sort, you will need to read the label. This is due to our natural defences working in conjuntion with them. You will need to use something like canesten cream to help the burning itching feeling. You can alos take painkillers with the antiboitics to help the pain. hope this helps and you feel better real soon

Hi charmingeh

I used to get thrush all the time and what worked for me was taking Acidophilus tablets (Holland and Barratt) I haven't had a bout since. Actimel could also help but can be expensive. A lot of people recommend eating live yogurt every day while you are on anti-biotics to prevent thrush.
I also found cutting down on sugar and yeasty products helped too.

Hope you feel better soon
