My windscreen wipers make a horrible noise on the glass. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? They weren't as good as they could be until I cleaned them with alcohol but now I've got this noise...

If they are clean and they still make the noise, buy new ones.

The rubbers have gone hard, are they a new pair? if new, are they on the right way? as said, put some vinegar on the rubber.

Pay a bit more and get retro-fit flat blade wipers. They are the bee's knees.
