/// He said: "If more men were homosexual, there would be no wars, because homosexual men would never kill other men, whereas heterosexual men love killing other men. ///

Perhaps Mr Morrissey should conduct a little research, before making such wild and brash statements?

The Heygate Estate had a marginally worse reputation than the Alysebury, but you are right - they were more akin to 1970s Russia than South London.

Irritatingly, my flat on the Aylesbury was fantastic - really big, really nicely laid out, and because part of the rent went to 'district heating', my gas bills were £11 a quarter.

Pity about the pools of acrid urine in the lifts every Friday night...
i will never understand architects designing this kind of building for people to live in, no one should live in them, awful. i go past on my way to the market and believe me it takes all my effort to not stare in horror at the whole wretched place. NJ said that they will be pulling the Heygate down, if so, not before time. I looks like a drug and thieves den on a massive scale.
I should be it, heavens what must you think,

Keyboards are there to fox us at every turn.

In fairness - when these estates were built in the 60s, high rise living was seen as the future, and people flocked to live there.

However, what people didn't realise at the time was that community 'street feeling' would be destroyed in the process. The idea of 'streets' was effectively demolished.

Is it no wonder that Ian Fleming named his character Goldfinger after the 60s architect?

(Pub quiz question).
but these are monsters, and very few people i know lived in them, we did live on an estate but nothing like this..
Ha! We could form a little estate posse on here... LG, Splat, em and me... :c)

291 Wendover, alysebury estate, that was me. And yeah, the actual flat was huge, I used to like sitting on the window ledge and staring out. We didn't have a balcony though.
And let's go off at a tangent............... If all generals were homosexual, can you imagine the arguments/disputes/wars about the best musical ever?
