I've just gone bleary eyed for a ciggy and thought what are they all over my crab apple? Waxwings! I'm so excited I've never seen one before. Sorry the picture was taken in such a panic it's not brilliant. South Dorset for the location.

My only sighting of waxwings was in Chester, they were in a tree by the side of the canal near City Road. As it was my first sighting I had to look up what they were whilst in W H Smith.
This was 4 or 5 years ago, not seen any since.
as well as rowan, they are attracted to cotoneaster

Lovely photos, Prudie, well done :)

Wow, you lucky lady. :-)
I didn't know they came over to this side of the country, but I've just done a search for "Waxwing sighting in my town" only to discover that there has been a sighting of about 25 an hour or so ago.
I shall have to keep my eye out.
Frank...keep looking. They usually move in very short jumps, staying til they have stripped all the berries in a small area them move on to the next lot of berries. Good luck.
It seems the current cold spell coming from Russia and Scandinavia are driving these waxwings further and further south.
I'm still hoping the see them in Hertfordshire, so fingers crossed!!
