Could It Be An Egret?

Standing in a field in Cumbria, a bird with long legs, white feathers. Nearby was a grey heron. In comparison, the white bird appeared slightly smaller than the heron. Could this be an egret?

Very likely. They seem to be on the increase here.
Sounds like it Tenrec. Egrets are spreading after first breeding on the south coast...Dorset....I think. Handsome bird. x

Thanks for the replies. I think this is the first one I have seen in Cumbria.
Agree, it's quite likely. Used to see a couple just up the road from me, although haven't seen them for a while now.

See quite a few in N/Kent
Egrets, I've had a few but then again......
Just a thought, I wonder if it could have been a spoonbill ?
