I gave a statement to the police when i found out my brother had murdered somebody - i was under the impression i had to. Now i may have to go and give evidence against my brother and i don't want to. Is there any legal way i can get out of this as i need to. thanks

The only person who can refuse to give evidence against another and get away with it is a wife who doesn't have to supply evidence against her husband if she so wishes.....other than that you would have to inform the police that you wish to either alter or withdraw your sworn statement and you'll be leaving yourself open to charges of wasting police time and falsifing evidence but even then this will most likely not stop you from being called as a witness should any trial come to court....in addition if you are unable to sstick to a new version of events and make it believable then you may be prosecuted yourself for perjury.
go to citizen's advice or get a good solicitor NOW. You can't treat this lightheartedly [I'm not saying you are], but don't think I can just shrug it off
